A/N: I'll keep the entry public, but I'm not cross-posting to any comms, because I really don't know exactly what this is - it just kinda came spilling out of me one evening. I thought I'd share, though, since labsquint asked so nicely :)
Summary: Now, she finds that the best time to write is when (most) other people are not around; when it’s finally quiet, when the motion of the world has ceased to surround and envelope her with the cacophony of noise that seems to come with the daylight.

Temperance Brennan can be picky at times. Especially when it comes to her writing habits (which, she finds ironically, seem to have changed over the years in the same way that her life has – moving from chaotic and, on occasion, utterly messy, to organized and serene).

Now, she finds that the best time to write is when (most) other people are not around; when it’s finally quiet, when the motion of the world has ceased to surround and envelope her with the cacophony of noise that seems to come with the daylight.

Actually, nighttime seems to be the best time for a lot of things (unlike other children, she had never been afraid of the dark – in fact, as a kid, she had reveled in it, rejoiced in it, secretly reading under her covers until the late hours of the night, fascinated by one of her science textbooks, rereading the chapter they’d had to read for class that day, and then of course being all sleepy and groggy the next morning). She found that, over the years, she preferred to do many things during the night rather than in the bright, sometimes harsh daylight. Like having quiet, heartfelt conversations with the man currently lying next to her in the bed, reading his own book while she sits here and types away on her laptop. They’d had many conversations here, and not always ones that were said through whispered words, but instead through the brush of a hand along a shoulder, an arm wrapping protectively around the other, or a gentle press and meeting of lips.

At these thoughts she looks up and glances over at Booth to find that he has put his book down on the bedside table, and that his eyes are already trained on her; she wonders how long he’s been watching her sit here and type.

She arches an eyebrow questioningly, but he only smiles in answer, his warm brown eyes shining with warmth. Her response is the grin she can’t help letting spread across her face in return, and she sets her laptop down, turns off the bedside lamp, and in the welcoming darkness settles herself into waiting arms.

Because I owe you guys this from forever ago...

I wrote this several months ago, and kept tinkering with it and then forgot about in all the college hype. I'm still not certain I'm happy with it, but I think I'm probably as happy with it as I'll be, so here you go.

Title: The Hardest Thing
Pairings/Characters: Semi-implied Booth/Brennan; Brennan.

Summary: Sometimes the battle between brain and heart can be tricky.
A/N: What came spilling out of my brain when I thought about lerdo's prompt: "The hardest thing in this world is to live in it." - Buffy Summers.

Sometimes, she thinks too much. And sometimes, she knows she doesn’t think enough.

It’s a balancing act, not unlike the high-wire that she mastered long ago; this, however, she hasn’t mastered (and she’s not sure she ever will).

Oftentimes, either extreme leads her somewhere she doesn’t want to be.

Think too much, and her train of thought often dwells upon the things she tries to forget. They seem to spite her, reappearing in the darkest minutes of her day, while she is surrounded by so much and yet still so alone. Memories that float to the surface of her subconscious and force their way into her dreams without her permission (unfortunately, dreams are one place that, even for her, logic does not reign; therefore she cannot control them, no matter how hard she tries). The dreams that make her feel like a teenager again, that upon waking make her feel the ache of loneliness that she had thought she’d banished 15 years ago along with her childhood.

When she doesn’t think enough, when she lets her heart lead her, she inevitably does something wrong. There are countless times when she’s said the wrong thing, done the wrong thing, and caused hurt to someone she cares about.

Lately, all she can remember is what was probably her biggest mistake. When she let the teenage Temperance out instead of Dr. Temperance Brennan; the one who had never been asked to a dance or a party by a boy, who now betrayed her in making her forget everything she knew to be true about the best man she’s ever known. Do you think I’m a loser? It haunts her dreams at night; why can she only now see the hurt in his eyes?

And so, being a scientist, she experiments to determine how to fix this problem. Letting her heart and her head share control while they spin circles around her like clothes whirling in a dryer, swapping control back and forth and back and forth and back and forth again.

She doesn’t know if she’ll ever get it right. But she has to try.

In the magical (real) universe where fairies and ogres and elves exist...

Kris, it turns out, is kind of a slut. Not in practice, because the whole accidental not-sponge-worthy gay sex really was the first and only time Kris cheated, but in spirit, Kris is a total tramp. Most people would call him a flirt and say he doesn't mean any of it, he's just teasing, but Kris knows that in his heart where he can't ever lie because that's where Jesus lives--he means every word, and if he hadn't promised Katy to be faithful in front of his parents and God and everyone, it's seriously likely that he would be a lot sluttier in practice. Because Jesus maybe lives in his heart, and that helps with resisting the impulses to get jiggy with it, but Kris is pretty sure that Lucifer or, at the very least, one of his higher-up lieutenants, has taken up residence in his dick. Jesus is a busy dude, he can't always be hanging out in Kris's heart, helping him fight temptation, but Satan has like a gillion minions and can totally afford to dedicate one solely to Kris's dick, especially when Kris is in this vulnerable position of constant blue balls. It's not Kris's fault he's a harlot. The devil made him do it. QED.

Okay, we are trying this again, because I had an awesome epic post halfway done for you last night and firefox/LJ ate it. BOO. :(

3. I have been sucked into a new fandom! It's epic love, people, seriously. And I have been gobbling up any fanfic I can find for it, so I've been doing mucho reading lately, so that's mainly where I've been. Let's see where my love for this fandom all started, shall we?

Oh, and a warning: If you RPF/RPS squicks you out, you may want to consider not clicking that link. Unless you want to just read the first half of my post about Adam Lambert and skip the rest...

FLAILINGS/EXPLANATION UNDER CUT

This all started with my epic love/obsession for the awesomeness that is Adam Lambert. I'm sure you've all seen my flailings in a previous post or two, but if you've forgotten who he is & why he's so awesome, here's a quick refresher:

Some of the links later in this post will have some of this, but here's my semi-short list of reasons to love Adam Lambert:

REASON 1. His voice is amazing. Really. He can go low, or high, or somewhere in-between. Plus, it has this kind of silky smooth quality to it that just makes me want him to sing every single song on my iPod so I can hear it in his voice.

He is original while still able to sing just about anything. He can do rock, he can do country, he can do ballads, he can do disco. He can sing something sweet and tender, he can sing something sexy, he can sing something slow and sad, he can sing something that's totally hard-core rock and slightly scream-y. He can do just about anything and put his own spin on it and make it his own. Often I find that I like his version of the song better than the original.

If you want to hear him sing without all that studio production touch-up stuff, there's an acoustic version you can listen to of the song Starlight by Muse (which is also one of the songs he sang on the AI tour, but non-acoustic) that he performed on Good Morning America, here.
[BTW: It has some screaming of the fans in the background, and you might have to turn the volume up a bit to hear him well enough, but it's pretty good quality nonetheless.]

REASON 2. He is not just an amazing singer, but an amazing performer as well. He entertains every single time, and he'll surprise you with what he does, yet it's always good. I don't know if it's his theater training, or just that he has a great instinct for that type of stuff, or what, but he always seems to make it work.

If you want to watch any of his American Idol performances, this website has all of them.

REASON 3. He is adorable. Seriously, look at the second picture. Don't you just love those freckles? He even has them on his lips! Also, he is pretty damn sexy. If you don't think so, watch him perform Ring of Fire and then try to tell me you still think otherwise. ;)

REASON 4. He is (or at least seems to be) a genuinely nice guy. He seems to be fairly down-to-earth, confident, funny, kind, and a bit of a daredevil. He's not afraid to be who he is, even when some people hate him, and he's practically honest to a fault. I really kinda want to be his best friend and go hang out with him all the time.

REASON 5. I am fangirling over him and he doesn't even have his own album out yet. Not even a single from the album is out yet, and I'm still flailing with excitement over what he'll come up with. SERIOUSLY, PEOPLE.

Still not convinced to join the legions of Adam Lambert fans? Then consider this:

Fans of Adam Lambert have raised over $142,000 for charity with about 1,500 donors in about a month. Of course, there is a bit of a prize: whichever fan group wins the contest by raising the most money gets an online chat session with Adam, but the groups who aren't winning, and at this point will clearly not win, are still putting in money anyways. The livejournal group over here at ontd_ai is currently winning, and has donated over $54,000 with ~700 donors. That's quite a bit of money per person - about $70.

Now, onto one of my new OTPs: Kris Allen/Adam Lambert, or Kradam.

Kris/Adam are kinda like Demily - I'm sure that in real life they're just great friends, but they are absolutely adorable together. Not to mention that Kradam has a bit more canon behind it than Demily does (at least, to my knowledge). Seriously, even if you don't ship Kris & Adam together, you have got to find their friendship one of the most heart-warming ever.

I stumbled across the notion of them after discovering that the lovely icon maker claire_kay had a fic rec post which consisted mainly of kradam fics, so I took a chance one evening and read one. And subsequently got sucked in :)

Some people other than me are, ultimately, better at explaining/showing the awesomeness that is Kradam (as well as some backstory), so I'll let them do that.

This post by buffyx, which is probably the most referenced guide/primer to the pairing that there is. It is full of epic awesomeness and lots of GIFs and pictures and some quotes from interviews and such, as well as an intro to each of the boys & then an intro to the pairing.

This post by sprat, which is admittedly more about Adam than kradam, but has some good fic recs as well as a great video showcasing a mix of some performances from each of the artists and some kradam moments (with audio evidence) and is very well put together. (SERIOUSLY, WATCH THE VIDEO)

This post (with appropriate top-of-post banner, below) by evangiles, which is an epic picspam with lots of quotes. As a sidenote, not every quote goes with the picture(s) it is under/over - some of them do, but some of them I know for sure don't - so just read the adorable quotes and look at the cute pictures(OMG the hugs!).

A/N: This is just something I wrote a few weeks ago, and I thought I'd finally tweak it and post it for you all to read! Hope you like it, let me know what you think!

Temperance Brennan was not a killer.

He knew it back then even, in the first year of their partnership when he took her mother’s earring from a crime scene. When he risked his career for her without a second’s thought to it, despite the fact that he’d do much less for some whom he had known for much longer.
He still knows it now, while he sits here on the stand, testifying in her father’s trial. Struggling with what she wants him to say, and what he knows to be true; what he knows cannot be true.

But the inner struggle is almost pointless – he’d do anything for her. And even back then, down in New Orleans, the nagging voice inside his head knew what it was that he had hesitated to classify; what he now knows is something that he can deny no longer.
And so he says something that is true, yet implies something that he knows with all his heart could never be.

Oh God, What Are They Doing To My Poor TV Show?

Ahhhhh. All I have to say, is I just finished watching nothing_b_bones's fabulous video of how the writers are butchering Brennan's character this season, and just UGH. WRITERS?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Oh how it's gone downhill so.... :'(

I miss my old Booth and Brennan. Will probably be off watching S1 tonight to fix that.

On a more positive note, lately I've been reading Patricia Cornwell's 'Kay Scarpetta' series, and am enjoying it immensely. I tore through the first book in one or two days near the beginning of April (sometime over my spring break), and have today just started the 4th one. I hadn't read a "real" book in a while and had forgotten just how amazing it can be to be stuck in a book :)
Anyone else reading/read something good lately?

***SPOILERS from last night's episode***

I liked last night's episode except for the repeatedly bashing Booth part (wanted to give him a hug, poor guy). Oh, and the Hodgins tattoo thing, while funny, was slightly weird for me. Thoughts?

DB Punk'd Video Thoughts

Hey guys!

I just found this video via the post on Obsessed With Bones today (I know it's an old video, but I figured since I hadn't seen it yet some of you might not have either). This video did two things, really, for me:

1. Enforced my dislike of any TV show that does some "punk'd" type of thing.

2. Upped my respect and admiration for David Boreanaz.

I'll share the rest of my thoughts, but first if you want to watch the video, here it is:

I really dislike Punk'd even though I've hardly ever seen anything from it (plus, I just generally don't like Ashton Kutcher that much), but I hate that they'd make something like this into a joke. I mean okay, it's not like she lost a limb or anything so it's not "call an ambulance" serious, but I think that it's bad enough that I'd be worried in his situation. So I don't find this funny at all, actually. I feel so bad for David, but I love the concern and protection he shows for his wife and how calm and generally respectful he stays throughout the whole thing.

(I am, of course, assuming that since the point of the show is to catch them on camera unbeknownst to them, that they don't tell the person ahead of time, but I don't have much experience with these types of shows so I really don't know.)

Stupid Cuts

ICK. Stupid stupid annoying LJ cuts haven't been working for me lately, as I just discovered tonight. Had to spend some considerable time trying to read through the mess that is HTML for my longer "take a look" post and try to find out where the freaking thing cut itself off. It's all fixed now, but I'm quite pissed off and will now be doing all future cuts myself by inserting the HTML manually. *scream of frustration*

ACK! ACK! ACK! I am seriously hoping it is a joke, guys, but I just wanted to ask: does anyone read the sides?

Because I was looking at reactions on Obsessed With Bones and one girl named Christina made this comment:

Well, er, sides are out. I haven't read them. But I do know that Stewie is definitely in them...

Does this count as a "spoiler"? It's more like a confirmation...

If this is true, what does that mean for this spoiler?!?!

UGH. NOOOOOOO! I am really hoping this is all part of an elaborate April Fool's plan....otherwise, we may all be in therapy together. *weeps*

Fire in the Ice GUH!

Will post later with more coherent thoughts, but.......

Wasn't the BB ending scene of Fire in the Ice one of the cutest, most adorable things you've ever seen?!?!?! The hand-holding, and the arm-in-arm thing, and the "Bones, nothing's going to change between you and me", and the general relaxed and happy atmosphere and just GUH! ♥

I really really liked this episode, putting aside the duh! the comes to mind when acknowledging that if Booth were really a suspect in a murder he would not be able to help solve that murder, even as an "advisor". But, I suppose Bones has done worsely unbelieveable in RL things (aka Booth recovering from being shot very quickly), and it didn't really bother me all that much I suppose. Before I watched the episode though, I thought that they were going to make it look a bit more like Booth could've done it, and then the squints would find something that proved him innocent (I'll admit, I was really hoping for a sort of echo of Booth's statement about Brennan at her father's trial only with Brennan telling Booth that type of thing). Still a good episode though!

And here I said I'd be back later with more coherent thoughts and I'm still rambling away. Ok, shutting up now, be back later. ;)

Fox, you are driving me crazy!!!

While I will admit I am super excited about 2 Bones tonight, they do have to make up for missing one last week. And then I look at the schedule and there's NO BONES NEXT WEEK. In its place is a 3RD day in a row of AMERICAN IDOL. And its just auditions, where they show mostly the crazy horrible singers from each city. :(
Here's hoping it changes *fingers crossed*

Dear Fox,

Why oh why do you keep shuffling Bones' schedule around? Are you just incapable of keeping a regular schedule from week to week? Please stop taking Bones away from us when we are just getting it back from the very long winter hiatus. Thanks.

Hello everyone!

I've been busy for a while, and haven't been able to post/comment much, but I'm hoping that very soon I will have more free time! I've been working on getting college applications in, and I haven't quite finished yet, but I'm almost there. Plus, my soccer season has ended (a while ago, yes, I know), so once both of those are finished that should free me up a bit. I hope. ;)

Hey guys! I'm on winter break now and am really excited to finally have some free time! :)

I just wanted to do a quick post tonight because I know some of you are out hunting for more userpics, and I wanted to recommend a great icon making community.

Go check out juicy_berries. It's a great community and has some great Bones icons with absolutely gorgeous coloring. I've filled up a lot of my userpic limit with their icons, and am actually having trouble choosing which ones to use ;)

Leah's been MIA, part II

Ugh. I'm going to make this post short, as I've lately always got things to do with any free time I have, thereby undoing the purpose of the 'free' in free time. School is definitely trying to bury me. Stress is trying to drown me. Etc, etc, etc.

I've come up for air for a tiny bit but I'm not seeing it getting any better until my winter break starts (about 2 weeks from now). So please forgive anything I've missed in the past couple weeks - I'm trying to catch up, but if there's anything important that's happened, let me know!

Election Coverage

Dear TV pundits (at least on MSNBC and CNN),

Your statistics with percentage of votes things are greatly amusing me. Especially when your little ticker things have a very low percentage of votes in (like 1%) and you are predicting things. Though I will be following all you election coverage people while I'm home tonight until we have a winner :)
